The very high doses are brought in just really if there are visual symptoms - to reduce the inflammation as quickly as possible and reduce the risk of loss of vision. If that happens it is irreversible - no other options.

No side-effect of pred is worse than being blind...

I find even on 20mgs of Pred I still ache in the muscles around my shoulder blades.    Not all the time but late evening and morning.   Has anyone else experienced this or are you meant to feel fit as a fiddle on 20 mgs?    I never had PMR at all with GCA so this muscle ache is all new to me.      Has anyone else had outer and inner shoulder blade muscle ache with PMR?

Yes - it was due to myofascial pain syndrome that caused spasmed muscles in my back and they in turn pinched nerves adding to the discomfort in the shoulder blades.

It's made worse by the poor posture and walking action that is common in PMR.

Well first of all, welcome back Eileen!

Secondly, thank you for that response as this niggling pain has been bothering me on and off for a few weeks; it didnt feel like PMR pain normally does but now I know what to call it ..... or not!

I choose to ignore it  Rolling Eyes

Elaine and Chris, I had a period of such pain in my shoulder blade area that I couldn't lean back against a chair.  A wonderful physiotherapist could feel knots in the muscles on examination, and sorted it within a few sessions using heat treatment, ultrasound and gentle massage.  Might be worth your while trying it if you pain doesn't resolve on its own.

Thank you for that suggestion, I actually have an ultrasound machine but never even thought about using it! It is in a drawer somewhere Wink

However my pain is only short lived, it wakes me up but seems to vanish when I have been up and about for a while so I use it as an alarm clock! I'm sure it isn't as troublesome as Elaine's and hope she may benefit from your suggestions.

In fact, sshhhh and touch wood, no pain at all for several days now but my four legged alarm clocks have taken over the duty of waking me up bright (!?) and early

Wink

No going over the top with gardening and cleaning now, Christine, just because  it's improving!  Good news though and hope it lasts.  Thought about your gorgeous 4-legged friends yesterday when fussing a little bichon being walked along the towpath.

Chris, it sounds very like my bog standard OA. You will have been fairly immobile during the night and there is nothing worse for OA as I can testify. It does seem counter intuitive that moving something that hurts will ease the pain but it is so, I find. But, As Shirley has warned, NOT TOO MUCH.

Betty I refuse to have OA thank you very much!!

I also refuse to do too much this year  Rolling Eyes  We are in the middle of some building work at the moment! Having a car port built at the side of the house for the motorhome .... does that mean it's a motorhome port?!
I'm just making the tea and providing cool water for them though, Dave is the one going up and down ladders!!

Had two lots of visitors this year and Michelle and grandkids arrivng next week then I take them back to the UK for a very short flying visit which may well involve a bit of shopping  Wink  Back home to the return of one lot of visitors who enjoyed themselves so much the other week they want to come back!  And we want them to come back, we enjoyed their visit as well  Very Happy

The garden is turning into a wasteland but I dont care!  It has been far to hot this week to venture out until about 9pm and then its too late to do any gardening;

So after all my moaning about the rain a few weeks ago I am now moaning again .... It's too blinking hot!!  40C yesterday but today is a bit cloudy and we just had a shower .... typical because I watered my tomatoes yesterday!  We are going to have a HUGE crop of cucumbers by the look of it! Must look out my cucumber recipes  Rolling Eyes
