Eileen that is such wonderful news!!  Asthma must be so very frightening. My granddaughter Ebony has it but not as severe as Naomi by any means. She has just had a series of tests to discover what allergies she has that might trigger it and sure enough, the ones I suggested to Michelle came out on top.

It hasn't stopped Michelle taking her to visit her friend who has a crazy Springer Spaniel (dogs and cats being top of her allergy list) and I doubt if it has made her clean the house more regularly.

If she wasn't Dave's daughter I would be seriously considering reporting her to social services Confused

Or am I being awful?  If it was my daughter suffering like that I would do everything in my power to help her wouldn't you?  Of course you would!  I may suggest the veggie option but I suspect it would be seen as too much trouble.  Mad

It is terrifying when they are in A&E and the doctors haven't a clue what to do - or are insisting on sticking to a protocol that mum knows from experience makes things worse not better!

Interestingly - the biggest problems were due to paediatric specialists. Now she is 16 she is under adult care - and spent a few days on the chest ward Nat used to work on. What a difference! The specialist nurses have been great and her medications changed.

One thing that might be interesting to find out with Ebony whether her medication doses have been adjusted for weight. When Nome was worst it was partly because she was on the same dose at 12 and carrying a load of pred weight as she had been at 8 when it all kicked off and she was a dainty little girl! Nat would have been given an adult dose - Nome not, but Nome weighed probably 15kg more than her mother.

Nome used to be told she was allergic to dogs - spending long with a friend with one would cause her to wheeze. But they have 2 cats and have just got a dog ...  And Nome now does a lot of the cleaning - given what a tink she was it is quite a revelation!!!!

How old is Ebony now?

Thanks for those thoughts Eileen. Ebony is 9 now and shooting up in height though still very slim.  I will mention the adjustment in dose due to weight gain to Michell although I very much doubt she will say anything to the medics. She always thinks she is being a nuisance!

Ebony is always worse when she spends time with their friend's dog, she's fine with ours but then ours are Bichon Frises and therefore classed as hypoallergenic!! They don't moult.

I really don't understand Michelle, she doesn't seem to understand the importance of child care generally. Those kids run rings round her and she still doesn't discipline them at all!  She started doing a bit while and after we saw them in Spain but I think that has gone by the board now.  She is a good mother really, given the problems she has had to overcome, but she doesn't have a clue generally!

However she has just cleaned the house from top to bottom and rented a skip, throwing out piles of stuff, so I think she may have got her act together at last...... although I have said that before.

Asthma though is so scary she really MUST understand it and do all she can to help.

Did she have a dysfunctional home background (not criticising her father)? Could have been either way - over disciplined so she is revolting against that or under disciplined so she thinks that is normal. But more than anything else - she sounds as if she has never grown up. And to be honest - that seems quite common in that age group for some reason...

Yes she did. Spoiled rotten and with a mother who wanted to be her friend not her mother (if you know what I mean)  I guess she was brought up to think whatever she wanted was hers for the asking and that carried forward into her adult life.  She got a shock when Dave refused to bail her out any further and, to be fair she tried to get her life together at that point. BUT she can't cope with the kids, she has no idea of how to set boundaries and she suffers from clinical depression (she says) there is certainly something wrong in the mental health area but it is hard to help someone like that.

She is now having treatment from various mental health professionals and seems to be improving but still has major lapses. It is tough for Dave when we live so far away but she knows we are here and happy to do all we can. Hard to do much though when she never answers her phone Rolling Eyes

Oh well, we keep trying.......

All questions answered...

It is hard - but Nat has turned back into a sensible human being I think although it is hard work living with a fulminating liberal!!!! Hopefully Michelle will get there too. Probably a bit late for her own children - although Nat's two do seem to be turning out a bit easier than their mother  Rolling Eyes
